“Building a Community” is a mural I designed and painted in Spring of 2017 for the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Joliet, Illinois. For this mural design, I wanted to show a community built by the people. It shows what volunteers actually do in an exaggerated way. Instead of just working on houses, it encompasses a whole composition of a town working cohesively. Upon gazing at the mural, the whimsical feeling brings back a sense of nostalgia from their childhood. This gives them a positive feeling as it is the last thing they see while exiting. The people in the composition are part of a community as a whole.
